Page 84 of Keeping Time

Panel 1: Denver and Daniel round the corner, exiting the alley behind the piano bar. Denver has his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket, looking up and off to the side. Daniel still holds the straps of his backpack, and looks down at the ground.

Panel 2: Denver, leaning forward, attempts to smile as he says, "Yeah, so--" Unfortunately for him, Daniel has also chosen this exact moment to break the silence. Daniel, leaning back slightly and wearing a worried expression, says, "Um--"

Panel 3: The same panel repeats, while both boys say, "Ah," in unison. They're having completely different reactions to interrupting one another. Denver wears his default, 'oh shit' grin, and Daniel grimaces and breaks eye contact.

Panel 4: Denver recovers first, and motions gently at Daniel. He says, "My bad. Go ahead."

Panel 5: Daniel, his eyes still cast towards the ground, replies, "Sorry. It's not anything important."

Panel 6: He's nothing if not persistent. Denver's smile is soft as he tries again with a, "...Please?"

Panel 7: Daniel returns his grip to the straps of his backpack. He doesn't look at Denver, but instead stares at a point somewhere on the ground. He's lit by the lights of an empty restaurant and apartment windows behind him. Daniel finally answers, "Um... well. I saw you in the audience. But then you disappeared, so I thought... I thought you left."

Buckle up for the longest, sustained interaction between these boys yet...!

If I had something else to say about this page, then I completely forget what it is, because I am way more excited to talk about... Keeping Time's one-year anniversary! It's coming up on April 23rd, and I feel so incredibly blessed because Nico (you may know him better as certifiedmalewife, our resident Connoisseur of Keeping Time Deep Reads in the comments) is organizing an entire fanweek dedicated to it!!!

A screenshot of the bluesky account keepingtimefanweek.bsky.social. It features a header of fireworks, confetti, and a banner that reads "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" over Keeping Time art. The icon is Daniel wearing a delightful rainbow party hat.

AHHHH. Nico's given me a glimpse of some of the plans for it, and it's seven days of incredible prompts, open to anyone who wants to participate to make fanworks! Art, writing, fiber crafts, macaroni art, everything is welcome. (I think he and I both agree 'yelling about Keeping Time' counts as fanwork too.)

The fanweek has a WHOLE BLUESKY ACCOUNT dedicated to it, so go give that a follow if you want to see what he has up his sleeve! (It's very likely, if not unavoidable, that I am also going to participating in some of these prompts. They're so good, I can't NOT.) The fun runs from April 21st to 27th.

Wait, one last thing. Speaking of fanworks, Spidey! on Bluesky made an entire Stef edit. I just. How are you all so cool and talented? I'm so lucky, man.
