Page 85 of Keeping Time

Transcript

Panel 1: Denver rubs the back of his head sheepishly. He says, "Ah, yeah. Sorry about that. I wanted to stay for your full set, but the frat guys at the table next to me were getting on my nerves."

Panel 2: Daniel and Denver cross the quiet city street. Daniel smiles over his shoulder at Denver behind him as he asks, "Oh, the ones who kept requesting Nickelback?" Denver drags his hands down his face with an anguished expression and concedes, "And Trapt."

Panel 3: Daniel chuckles, unconsciously bringing one hand to his mouth as if to cover his smile. He replies, "Heh, yeah. I, uh, sort of ignored all their requests at the end because they weren't tipping the bar at all."

Next to him, Denver replies with a grin, "Ha! Serves 'em right."

Panel 4: A look of determination/upset flashes across Daniel's face as he declares, "They can make me play whatever they want, but I won't tolerate anyone shorting Elena."

Denver laughs behind him, "Haha! She is one helluva lady."

Panel 5: Denver stuffs both hands into the pockets of his leather jacket. He looks away to say, "She and I, uh, got to talk a little while you were still on stage. She said she knew who I was from a conversation she had with you."

Panel 6: Daniel whips around, a stricken look of dread on his face reminiscent to his reaction on page 28.

I generally try not to yuck anyone's yum about their music tastes (it's so personal!), BUT I make an exception for bands that support shit like Pr*ud Boys, so yeah, fuck Tr*pt!!!

The "ugh, Nickelback" feeling of the boys, though, is a nod to the era of Keeping Time takes place in. (I, personally, find Nickelback fun; I was at a show semi-recently where Seattle band Public Theatre covered "This is How You Remind Me" in the middle of their set, and the crowd absolutely went wild and we all had a great time.)

Speaking of music! I realized it's gonna be a while before I get to any of the other character's toyboxes (right now, Denver's is the only one up and running), which is too long to wait to share all the character playlists. So those are up now over on the new Playlists page! (It's pretty bare bones right now; I'll make it pretty someday.)
